Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool offered by Google to help you analyze your website traffic in general. Even though “web analytics” sounds like a very small area of your digital presence, the implications of Google Analytics are huge.
If you are running any marketing activities such as search ads or social media ads, your users are most likely going to visit your website somewhere along their user journey.

How does Google Analytics work?
Simply put, Google Analytics puts several lines of tracking code into the code of your website. The code records various activities of your users when they visit your website, along with the attributes (such as age, gender, interests) of those users. There are a couple of ways to implement it. Today we show you how easy you can implement Analytics with MonsterInsights.

MonsterInsights is the most popular Google Analytics plugin for WordPress. It is available as free and as a paid premium plugin. For this tutorial the free version of MonsterInsights is all you need. The Pro version of MonsterInsights offers you more advanced tracking features for commerce, Ads or author, however the process of setting them up is the same. But this here is can be used completely for free!
The first thing you need to do is install and activate the MonsterInsights plugin. The plugin will add a new menu item labeled ‘Insights’ to your WordPress admin menu. Clicking on it will bring the MonsterInsights setup wizard.

Next, you will be asked to allow MonsterInsights to access your Google Analytics account.
The final step is to select the profile you want to track. Select your website here and then click on the ‘Complete authentication’ button to continue.
MonsterInsights will now install Google Analytics on your website. After that you will be asked to select the recommended settings for your website.
